Description of the item
A 19th century Louis XIV taste French red faux tortoiseshell & boulle marquetry ormolu mounted striking bracket clock. The case with flame finial and faux side panels, repousee dial with engraved outer minutes markers and individual cartouche enamelled hour chapters , blued steel hands, the movement with four back pinned pillars, twin barrels and anchor escapement with rack and snail striking on single bell. The movement is signed for the maker ' HP & Co. ' Paris and also bears the mark for 'JAPY FRERES' Grande Medaille d'Honneur awarded in 1855 Paris. The movement has been cleaned & serviced and is in full working order. 16 inches high.
Information about maker
Japy Freres were considered one of the top French clock makers of the 19th century who first exhibited their work in the French Exposition of 1819. This movement bears the mark 'Grande Medaille d' Honneur' which was awarded to Japy Freres in 1855.
The case is in good condition, with one or two small marks. The mechanism has been cleaned serviced and is fully working, - displays very well - supplied with winder & Brocot key.
