ANTIQUE GUSTAV BECKER WALNUT DOUBLE WEIGHT VIENNA REGULATOR WALL CLOCK c.1895
Description of the item
A large double weighted walnut Vienna Regulator by noted maker Gustav Becker dating to circa 1895. The 49" tall walnut pillared case glazed to three sides houses the 7" chapter ring dial marked with the 'Gustav Becker' logo and contains subsidiary seconds dial. The twin train mechanism strikes the hours at the top of the hour on single coiled gong and is marked 'GB Freiburg - Medaille d'Or. The clock is in good antique condition, the movement has been cleaned and serviced and keeps good time.
Information about the maker
Gustav Becker was one of the better quality and best known German clockmakers from the mid to late 19th century was. Born in 1819, Becker trained as a clockmaker in Germany and Austria. In 1850 he opened workshops in Freiburg, Silesia, Germany in 1850. Initially, Becker struggled with untrained help, but won the "Medaille d’Or" for design at the 1852 Silesia Trade Exposition. Becker incorporated that first medal and his initials, G.B., into his trademark.
The mechanism has been cleaned and serviced. The clock is in very good condition and fully working. Clock supplied with original winder. A good time keeper.
