ANTIQUE GORGE CASED CARRIAGE CLOCK - E.MAURICE & Co. PARIS circa 1902
Description of the item
A fine French Gorge cased carriage clock, has white ceramic rectangular panel dial with Roman numerals and moon hands over inscription "R. Steward Glasgow, Paris make", the single train movement with original silvered lever platform escapement beneath large bevelled glazed panel, the movement stamped E. M. & Co" within an oval and serial number 6334, 18.5cm high including handle. The movement cleaned & serviced is fully working.
Has engraving to the front "TO MISS ROUGH - FROM THE NURSES - WITH BEST WISHES - XMAS 1902" - The underside of the base is also inscribed " La Gaudinier " and marked 6334.
Information about maker
From Charles Allix respected reference book on the history of carriage clocks - "Maurice & Co." are recorded as "A very fine maker", at Rue Charlot 75, Paris, and as having shown at the 1889 Paris Exhibition.
The clock is good condition and fully working. The mechanism has been cleaned and serviced. Supplied with double ended winder.
