ANTIQUE COUAILLET FRERES FILIGREE BANDED REPEATER CARRIAGE CLOCK c.1900
Description of item
A French filigree banded repeat striking carriage clock by the respected clock making family 'Couaillet Freres' the ornate case with bevel edge glass top window, and a clear enamel dial with black Roman numerals, outer minute chapter ring and blued steel spade hands. The twin train French movement having its original lever platform escapement strikes the hours and halves on blued steel single gong. This very attractive clock is of course supplied complete with key. (France, c. 1900)
Information about maker
In 1890 Armand Couaillet started a business producing carriage clocks, shortly afterwards his three brothers joined the business. By the turn of the century, the company employed about 100 workers and became in their heyday the largest exporter of carriage clocks to Britain. The distinctive Couaillet 'hands arrow' includes four dots in its tail, one for each brother.
The clock is in good condition and fully working. All glasses in good condition, the dial has a extremely fine hairline to top right corner - barely visible. The mechanism has been cleaned and serviced. Supplied with double ended winder.
